What is Traditional Neon?
Firstly here’s a little backstory of traditional neons. The first Neon came around in the middle of the 20th century. Traditional neons were used widely but were declined as they were too expensive and fragile. Traditions neons are definitely still around but the numbers have dramatically dropped, this is because there is a better alternative now – LED neons.
Traditional neons are made with hand-blown glass. This is done by heating the glass and bending it into the desired shape they are then cooled and fused together. They are later filled with various gasses (mercury, argon and helium) to achieve the desired colour the customer is after.
What is LED Neon?
LED Neons used LED lights instead of gases. The LED lights are then surrounded by flexible Polymer tubing. The tubing is then connected to an acrylic backing board. LED neons work by plugging them in like any other light.
Why should you choose LED Neon?
Traditional neons are safe but can be easily broken as they are made from glass. They then become dangerous as they release all the gasses contained inside of them. LED Neons are far cheaper to run this is because they run on a far lower voltage than traditional Neons. With traditional signs you are not able to change the colour or dim it once the gas has been installed that is the colour, you will have forever. However, for LED Neons you are able to change the colour or the brightness of your neon using an adapter.
